Camping

Herston Caravan and Camp Site offers excellent family camping and caravanning in the beautiful Dorset countryside, but it is also close to beaches and the bustling town of Swanage. The nearby sandy beaches are accessible by foot (15 minutes) car (5 minutes) and train.

Caravanning

The camping ground is level and safe for children. The caravan and motor home pitches are hard standing and fully serviced to include, electric hook up, cold drinking water, and drainage. The pitches will accommodate large mobile homes, such as Winnebago, and single and double axel touring caravans.

Park Homes

We have 4 Park Homes on the same side as the Log Cabins, WILLOW, HAZEL, BEECH and ELMS, that are a 6 berth units - 1 double with en suite and TV, 1 bedroom with 2 beds, shower room with power shower, sink and toilet. Fully fitted kitchen, dining area with free standing table and upholstered chairs. Lounge three-piece suite settee that converts to a bed, coffee table TV, DVD and fully double glazed doors plus windows. ELMS is the same but has two French doors.

Mongolian Yurts

Stay in your very own Mongolian Yurt! Our Yurts are decorated with traditional Mongolian designs. Yurts are warm when the weather is cool and cool when the weather is hot. The site is very near to Herston Halt which is a stop on the famous Swanage steam railway. What better place to begin your adventure? - from here steam trains travel through magnificent scenery on a restored railway line to charming Corfe Castle and Swanage town centre.

Tickets for the Swanage Railway are sold on the camp site.

Romantic Corfe Castle towering majestically at the heart of unspoilt country side is a short ride away.

There are many picturesque villages of mellow stones, cob and thatch in the area with country inns and summer barbeques. Holiday activities abound such as diving, sailing, fishing, golfing - something for everyone!

From the camp site you will be able to discover glorious sandy beaches and breathtaking coastal scenery, fossils, dinosaur footprints and a wonderful diversity of birds and wild life.

The natural features and scenery really are spectacular - flowery hay meadows, gorse-studded heathland and gently rolling downland compete for attention with rugged limestone cliffs, golden sands and sheltered bays.

From Studland Bay near Swanage to Exmouth in Devon, this unique stretch of coastline is one of the natural wonders of the world. The outstanding geology represents 185 million years of earth history. Purbeck's delightful mix of unspoilt coast and countryside lies mostly within an area of outstanding natural beauty. Recently designated as a classic place to see how underlying rocks control the development of landscape and coastline.

The heritage coast is lined with spectacular geological features. Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Old Harry Rocks, the Fossil Forest and contorted 'crumple' of Stair Hole are dramatically picturesque, especially when viewed from a boat. The South West Coast Path follows the whole of Purbeck's coastline. Starting at Shell Bay the path runs alongside three miles of glorious sandy beaches en route to the pretty village of Studland. Just beyond here are the Old Harry Rocks at Handfast Point.

Children will find lots more to do in the beachside Recreation Ground where, on Sunday afternoons in summer, open air band concerts take place. Music and festivals are very much a part of Swanage's busy events calendar; Blues Weekend in March, the renowned Jazz Weekend and the fun filled Regatta and Carnival Week in July and August. In September the town is filled with lively music and dance during its Folk Festival.
